MailDor - Help Command Summary
MailDor and Mailer are Copyright 1991 Ernie Johnson
All Rights Reserved
What is it? MailDor is a BBS door that collects the names and
addresses of BBS users that access the door.
From the DOS executable program (with MailDor), the sysop can
generate mailing labels, or just keep track of full address
information of his/her users.
MailDor's DOS program (MAILER), can also be used as a stand
alone program, that allows users to enter mailing information,
sort it, and print it on standard printer labels. Options are
provided to print specific labels, or groups of labels, as well
as very fast searching options.
Users interested in the program for the mailing label portion,
should download MDOR10.ZIP from their local BBS systems, or call
EPIC Information Systems BBS at (519) 357-1943 - you can be
guaranteed to get the latest version of MailDor and Mailer from
our support BBS.
Using MAILDOR
Here is the main menu options available from MailDor:
A - Add your information
This adds your information to the mailing list database for the
first time. If you have already entered your information, you
will be informed to use the "Edit" command.
Simply press "A" from the main menu, and answer the questions.
You will be asked for your street address (or post office box
number), city, state (or province), zip (or postal) code, and
phone number. Your name is identical to what is used on the
BBS. Since most BBS systems require real names, this shouldn't
be a problem for most users/sysops.
E - Edit your information
Once you add your information for the first time, you will later
need to use the "edit" command to change any of your address
information. If you select this option, you will be given a
list of your address information with its current contents.
Press the number listed on the left of the screen that
corresponds to the item you wish to change. After changing the
item, the list will be redisplayed with the new information
updated. Press "Q" to quit and save the editor, or "X" to abort
your changes and return to the main menu.
L - List users
This option will list the users in the database along with the
city and state (or province) they are calling from. Entire
mailing addresses are not displayed, simply because some people
don't want to give out mailing or phone number information to
anyone.
H - Help
Quite simply, it gives you a list of instructions/options
available in the MailDor. If you are a sysop, or using the
MAILER program, see the file called MAILER.DOC for complete
instructions on using the MAILER program from DOS. Sysops
should refer to SYSOP.DOC for assistance in getting the
MAILDOR.EXE portion running on his/her BBS.
I - Information
Information on the MailDor and Mailer program - basically, the
information section displays the program, version number,
copyright notice and displays who the software is registered to.
The information screen is identical to the title screen
displayed when a user starts the MailDor.
W - Why give this info
Some people wonder why sysops want this sort of information.
Here's how users can find out that information. The file
displayed is sysop definable and will vary from system to system
(if the sysop wants to change it from the default).
Most of the time, sysops want to mail out newsletters, or
membership renewal notices to users - some BBS software doesn't
keep track of full mailing addresses, so a program like MailDor
and Mailer become a necessity.
X - eXit MailDor
Quite simply, this option shuts down the MailDor program, and
returns you to the BBS.
